FAQ

Got questions?

Visiting & contact

Can I call, text or email you?

We’re a very busy walk-in retail store, and our staff focus on helping customers in person throughout the day. Because of this, we’re unable to provide support, troubleshooting or quotes by phone, text or email.

The fastest and most accurate way for us to help you is in person at our store: 820 Triple E Blvd, Unit 6, Winkler.

Already have a repair with us? Active repairs get a dedicated phone number you can call while your device is in service. You’ll receive it when you check your device in.

How do I reach you while my device is being repaired?

When you check your device in for repair, we’ll give you a dedicated phone number for active repairs. Use it to reach us about your device while it’s in service.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Just walk in during business hours: Monday to Friday 10 am–6 pm, and Saturday 10 am–2 pm. Whether you need a repair, a new or pre-owned device, accessories or help with a phone plan, our team is happy to help in store.

Why is there a pager at the door?

We keep it to three customers inside at a time so everyone can talk privately and comfortably. Grab a pager, wait in your car, and we’ll page you when it’s your turn.

Quotes & repairs

Can I get a quote over the phone or online?

No. All repairs require an in-person evaluation so we can properly inspect your device and give you an accurate quote. Pricing can’t be provided remotely.

Two phones with the same cracked screen can have very different problems underneath. Seeing your device lets us give you the most accurate quote possible. Some problems only show up once a device is opened, so if we find anything else, we’ll let you know before doing any extra work.

How long will I be without my device?

Most repairs are done the same day. Board-level, console and Mac repairs can take longer, and we’ll give you a time estimate when we look at your device.

Is my data safe?

Your privacy matters to us. We only access what’s needed to test the repair. We always recommend backing up your device before any repair, just in case.

My device won’t turn on. Can you still help?

That’s our specialty. No-power faults are often board-level problems that other shops can’t fix. Bring it in for an assessment.

I dropped my phone in water. What should I do?

Turn it off right away, don’t charge it, and skip the rice. Bring it in as soon as possible, because corrosion gets worse every hour.

What if you can’t fix my device?

If you decide not to go ahead, or it can’t be repaired, we return your device and only charge a flat assessment fee. We’ll always talk through your options, including an upgrade if that makes more sense.

Buying & trade-in

Do you sell phones and other devices?

Yes. We sell new and open-box phones, Certified OEM Pre-Owned phones (genuine parts, warranty included) and aftermarket refurbished phones for tighter budgets, along with cases, screen protectors and accessories. See the differences. Stock changes often, so stop by the store to see what’s available.

Can I finance a phone or get one with a plan?

No. Phones and phone plans are completely separate at Fixpal. We don’t offer phone financing, and plans don’t come with a phone. You can buy a phone outright, sign up for a plan, or both, as separate purchases.

Can I sell or trade in my old phone?

Yes, even if it’s broken. Bring your device in and we’ll assess it in person, then make you an offer, paid in cash or as in-store credit. In-store credit usually gets you more. Before you come in, back up your data, sign out of your Apple ID or Google account, and turn off Find My. How it works.

Phone plans

If I transfer my number to a Fixpal plan, can I move it to another provider later?

Yes. Your number is never locked to Fixpal. You may have heard otherwise, but that’s not correct. Fixpal is an authorized reseller for multiple major Canadian wireless providers, and the plans we offer follow the same CRTC rules and number-portability requirements as any other provider.

As with any provider, a few things can delay or prevent a transfer: an outstanding balance or account issue, an inactive service, not being authorized on the account, contract or service agreement requirements, or missing or incorrect account information. These are carrier and account requirements, not a hold by Fixpal. As long as they’re met, you can transfer your number to another provider.

Do you still offer Public Mobile?

Public Mobile is no longer offered at Fixpal. Since September 2022, Public Mobile has been 100% online. We still sell Public Mobile SIM cards, but we can’t provide any support or answer questions about Public Mobile accounts or plans.

If you’d like a plan with in-store support, we have other options, with plans starting at $13.50/month.* Just stop by the store.

Can I set up a phone plan online or by phone?

Phone plans are handled in store. Bring a recent bill when you visit and we’ll compare plan options side by side, then set everything up before you leave.

Consoles

Do you fix game consoles?

Yes. We repair PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, and Nintendo Switch (including OLED, Lite and Switch 2). We mainly repair HDMI ports, no-power faults and overheating (thermal refreshes), plus Nintendo Switch screens, and we also fix stick drift on controllers and Joy-Cons.

Can’t find your answer here? Stop by the store. No appointment needed, and our team is happy to help in person.
